Anime movies
This page is narrower than it looks. Filtering on the animation genre alone would return Pixar and DreamWorks alongside Studio Ghibli, which is what the Animation page does. Here the list is also filtered to films whose original language is Japanese, which is what separates anime from Western animation. The result is a shelf you can work through without wading past films that do not belong on it.
Find the best anime films
Set Sort to Rating and the list reorders by community score, with a vote floor applied. That floor matters more here than in most genres, because anime has a long tail of shorts and side stories carrying a handful of perfect scores. Without it, those would sit above the films that earned their reputation.
Work through it by decade
The year filter is worth using. Anime of the eighties looks and sounds nothing like anime of the last ten years, and picking a single year is the fastest way to see how far the form has travelled.
Films, not series
This page covers feature films only. Anime series live under TV, where seasons and episode counts make more sense than a single runtime.
Frequently asked questions
How is anime separated from other animation here?
By original language. A film qualifies if TMDb files it under animation and records its original language as Japanese. That is the standard practical definition, and it keeps Western animation on its own page.
Why is a specific title missing?
Usually because TMDb records its original language as something other than Japanese, which happens with international co-productions. It will still appear on the Animation page and through search.
Where are anime series?
On the TV section. Series are organised by season and episode count, which does not fit a film listing.
Can I watch these here?
Only titles we are licensed to stream, which carry a badge on the poster. Everything else shows details, cast and related films.
