Movie Genres
Every genre TMDb maintains, each with its own page and the same year, sort and rating filters. Pick a shelf and work through it at your own pace.

Browse movies by genre
Genres are the fastest way into a catalogue this size. Each page below holds every film TMDb files under that label, ordered by what people are watching now, with the same three controls you get everywhere else on the site: a year menu, a sort order and a minimum rating.
Most films sit on more than one shelf
TMDb contributors usually tag a film with two or three genres, so a thriller with a strong central relationship appears under Thriller and Romance both. That is why the same title turns up in more than one place, and why the genre list on a film page is often more useful than the page you arrived from.
Rating sort works best inside a genre
Across the whole catalogue, sorting by rating returns the same familiar names every time. Inside a single genre it becomes genuinely useful, because it surfaces the films that a smaller and more particular audience kept voting for.
Anime is filtered differently
Anime is not a TMDb genre. Its page combines the animation genre with a Japanese original-language filter, which is what keeps Western animation on the Animation page where it belongs.
Frequently asked questions
How many genres are there?
Sixteen pages here: fifteen TMDb film genres plus anime. TMDb also maintains Documentary, History, Music and TV Movie, which are not listed as separate pages but still appear on individual film records.
Can I combine two genres?
Not on these pages. Each genre has its own list. Open a film you like and use the related titles at the bottom of its page, which take every genre into account rather than just one.
Why does a film appear under a genre that does not fit it?
Genre tags on TMDb are community maintained, so occasional odd placements happen. Correcting the record at themoviedb.org corrects it here once our cache expires.
Are TV genres the same as film genres?
No. TMDb keeps a separate list for television, where some pairs are combined into Action & Adventure and Sci-Fi & Fantasy, and TV-only categories such as Reality and Talk exist. The TV section uses that list.
